Battery wraps – small fix, big safety
Battery wraps are thin plastic sleeves designed to restore the outer layer of loose lithium batteries, commonly 18650, 20700, or 21700 cells. If the original wrap is torn, scratched, or peeling, it should be replaced immediately – using a damaged battery can be dangerous.
Why are battery wraps important?
The outer wrap is not just cosmetic – it provides insulation that prevents accidental contact with metal surfaces. Exposed battery metal can cause a short circuit, potentially leading to overheating, fire, or even explosion if placed in a pocket or mod without protection.
When to replace a wrap
- Visible scratches or tears
- Peeling or lifted edges
- Discoloration or bubbling
- After dropping or heavy use
How to rewrap your battery
- Remove the old wrap and the insulator ring on the positive end
- Slide the battery into a new wrap
- Place the insulator ring on top of the positive pole
- Use a hairdryer or heat gun to gently shrink the wrap evenly
Note: Never use an open flame. Low, controlled heat is enough.
Customize your look
Battery wraps come in various designs and colors – from plain solid colors to printed artwork and character themes. It’s a fun way to match your setup and tell batteries apart.

Summary
Replacing damaged battery wraps is a simple but essential safety practice. It prevents shorts, improves longevity, and lets you add a personal touch. Always inspect your batteries and rewrap them at the first sign of wear.
