Shortfills

Shortfills are nicotine-free e-liquids sold in partially filled bottles, leaving space to add nicotine shots. They’re ideal for vapers who want more volume, lower cost per ml, and the flexibility to customize nicotine strength – all without full DIY mixing

What is a shortfill?

A shortfill is a bottle of ready-made, nicotine-free e-liquid that is intentionally underfilled so you can add your own nicotine shot. This format became popular in the EU after TPD regulations limited the sale of nicotine-containing e-liquids to 10 ml bottles. Shortfills give users more volume and control over nicotine content.

How does it work?

Most shortfills come in 60 ml or 120 ml bottles filled with 50 ml or 100 ml of e-liquid, respectively. The remaining space allows you to add 10 or 20 ml of nicotine shot. After adding the shot(s), simply shake the bottle well, and it’s ready to vape. Common strengths you can achieve are 3 mg or 6 mg, depending on the ratio and how many shots you add.

Advantages of shortfills

  • More volume for less money: Get more e-liquid at a better price compared to buying multiple 10 ml bottles.
  • Nicotine flexibility: Choose your own strength – or leave it nicotine-free.
  • No mixing skills needed: The flavor is already blended; just add nicotine and go.
  • Wide flavor selection: Shortfills come in fruity, menthol, dessert, and drink-inspired options.

Who are shortfills for?

Shortfills are great if you:

  • Use sub-ohm tanks and go through more liquid
  • Prefer low nicotine strength or none at all
  • Want to save money with larger bottles
  • Enjoy convenience but don’t want full DIY complexity

How much nicotine to add?

To make 3 mg strength in a 60 ml shortfill (filled with 50 ml of e-liquid), add one 10 ml nicotine shot at 18 mg/ml. For a 120 ml bottle with 100 ml of e-liquid, add two shots. You can use nicotine shots with different strengths depending on your preference. Just be sure to shake thoroughly after adding to ensure proper mixing.

Shortfill vs. longfill

Shortfills contain fully mixed e-liquid without nicotine – just add a shot. Longfills, on the other hand, contain only flavor concentrate and require the addition of both base liquid and nicotine. Shortfills are faster and easier, while longfills offer more customization.
